BattleBips

If you loved Barcode Battler, you’ll love this

In the early 90s there was a handheld that did something that felt like magic: you swiped a barcode through a slot and out came a warrior. BattleBips grew from that idea.

What Barcode Battler was

Barcode Battler was a handheld from the Japanese company Epoch, released in 1991. It came with barcode cards, but the fun part was swiping the codes on anything at home, from a box of biscuits to a book, to see which warrior or item they hid. Battles were numbers on a small screen, and still many people remember it fondly for that curiosity about what was inside every code.

What BattleBips keeps from that idea

And what is new

To see what comes out of each code, start with which bip is in my barcode, or go straight to how to play. There is also a short history of barcode games.

Frequently asked questions

Is BattleBips a version of Barcode Battler?
No. It is a different game, built from scratch, that shares the idea of turning barcodes into creatures that battle. It has no connection with Epoch or Barcode Battler.
Is there a game like Barcode Battler for phones?
BattleBips follows that idea: you scan the barcodes of things at home with your phone’s camera and each one gives you a creature to battle with. It is free and plays in the browser.

Barcode Battler is a trademark of its respective owners. BattleBips is an independent project with no connection to Epoch or Barcode Battler.
