How to get rare, epic and legendary bips
A legendary turns up in roughly 1 in every 100 product barcodes. There is no trick to guess which one, but there are ways to scan more, and better.
The barcode decides the rarity, not the product
Every barcode always hides the same species, and its rarity comes from the number itself. No category is better than another: a pack of gum can hide a legendary just like a tin of tuna. The type of product only decides the element. So the best advice is also the simplest: scan lots of different barcodes.

Scan with the camera
- Products (EAN and UPC): can give any rarity. These are the ones you want.
- QR codes, tickets and other labels: give wandering bips, which are uncommon at most.
- Typed numbers: only give commons and uncommons. If a number hid something better, the game tells you and asks you to scan it with the camera.
Get more scans every day
You can get 5 new bips every day; scanning a code you already have again is free. To scan more:
- The tower: every 5 floors you clear for the first time gives you an extra scan.
- Your streak: if you play several days in a row, every third day gives you an extra scan.
- Missions and achievements: some of them reward you with scans.
Where to look for barcodes
The more variety, the better: the cupboard, the bathroom, the bookshelf (books carry an EAN-13 code on the back cover), toys, the box of a gadget. At the supermarket there are hundreds of different codes in every aisle.
Be the first to discover a species
If nobody had scanned a code before, you are the one who discovers that species: your bip is marked as first to find it and counts towards the pioneer achievements. Unusual products are the ones hiding the most new species.
And if the legendary does not show up…
Each rarity has only 7.5 % more stats than the one before: a well-built team of commons, with the right archetypes and synergies, beats a poorly built team of rares. Read more about rarities.
Frequently asked questions
- Which products give legendary bips?
- None in particular: rarity comes from the barcode number, not the type of product. What works is scanning lots of different product barcodes with the camera.
- How many barcodes do I need to scan to get a legendary?
- On average, 1 in every 100 product barcodes hides a legendary, and 1 in every 25 an epic or better. It is down to luck and scanning a lot.
- How do I get more scans a day?
- On top of the 5 new bips a day, you earn extra scans every 5 new tower floors, every third day of your streak and from some missions and achievements.
